John Colbert hosted Emily Pilloton to talk about "H" Design. Emily's design concept is that design is a creative process we use for solving problems. Thus, instead of designing "stuff", we should design to solve one of the various social problems that are evident. The first thing they showed were eye glasses with adjustable vision. Colbert obviously commented on the "stylish" appearance, but Emily assured him that its purpose was people in underdeveloped countries who do not have access to doctors, can purchase these and change them individually. Another important thing they showed was the blue barrel water holder that can be used to transport large amounts of water with only a quarter of the effort pushing it rather than carrying. It is effective for villages where residents are multiple kilometers away from a water source. H design is humanitarian design and the goal is to not just design something based on form and function but that will have a larger impact of our social behavior.
