Fashion trends are always producing new accessories. However, at the same time, it produces a lot of things that lose their trendy "purpose". In this case, the monogram hysteria brought about personalized letters on everything from purses to shirts and jackets. Since the trend died a number of years ago, I have not seen any of these bags or hoodies sported in public.

Board games do not have the same sentimental value to family time as they use to. Our contemporary idea of "games" are all computerized. Its also interesting in the way that board games are now being produced in a card game manner, such as Scrabble and even Monopoly. Maybe this is happening to make they more moveable. This reminds me of the lastest version of Pictionary which has completely eliminated the board and cards. it has been reduced to three white figures that can be written on with removable marker, with the clue being viewed digitally.

Bookshelves are something that are not seen quite so often anymore. They are disappearing from homes quickly. One reason I believe this to be, is everything is being produced in a new media fashion. Thus books are able to be read online or in digital format on a Kindle. This can further be seen in the fact that textbooks are now available in online editions.

Apparel design yields a continual array of clothes that comes into style but in time, are no longer wearable. For instance, these clog shoes are rarely seen on the street, worn by people.

Washing dishes by hand is a thing of the past. Thus drying-racks are not necessary because dishwashers both wash and dry your utensils, plates, etc.

Furniture is something that is always being interchanged and redesigned. This old entertainment system, mainly a speaker stand has no purpose because speakers are more compact and small with a larger volume capacity.

This Nintendo 64 joystick and others like it have no use in comparison to the more interactive means of communicating with video games. Game system's like the Wii are able to sense full body movement instead of being reduced to simple movements by handheld devices.

Records are not used anymore. Even if people buy music they don't buy CDs even. They are purchased in digital formats.

Stuffed animals are toys of the past for young kids. Their new dolls are made to talk and even move on their own.

VHS tapes are rarely ever seen or produced anymore. Today, everyone buys movies on DVDs and recently on blue ray discs.
As a general comment, it seems that most of these items are unusable or unwanted do to technological developments. It says something greater about the fact that our generation and those to come are consumed with computers and technology. I was shocked when my 4 yr old cousin wanted to "youtube" as a form of entertainment.
great insights! but i still do love board games.
